Advanced Instruction for the Whole Pack

At Rose City Dogs, training is never one-size-fits-all. Whether you have a curious puppy, a growing adolescent, or an older dog who simply needs a refresher, we create custom training plans rooted in positive reinforcement, empathy, and real-life results.

Our comprehensive training programs, available during daycare or boarding, include one-on-one private sessions and behavior consultations that bring out the best in your dog.

We can help with:

  • Basic commands (sit, down, stay, come, leave it).
  • Loose leash walking.
  • Maintaining focus around people, dogs, and distractions.
  • Reliable recall.
  • Confidence-building for shy or anxious dogs
  • Impulse control and polite greetings.

What Is Family Dog Mediation (FDM)?

Our resident trainer is certified in Family Dog Mediation (FDM), a modern, holistic approach that considers the whole dog.

FDM focuses on the factors that shape your dog’s behavior, including:

  • Breed tendencies and purpose.
  • Individual temperament.
  • Learning style.
  • Daily environment and routine.

This science and psychology-based approach blends multiple techniques and disciplines to meet your goals humanely and effectively. But FDM isn’t just for your dogs. You are included every step of the way as we provide the knowledge and tools to support your dog’s progress at home.

A Gentle Start for Sensitive Dogs

Not every dog is ready for group play, and that’s A-OK. Our Socialization Center located in our Cully facility provides a nurturing, step-by-step introduction for dogs who need extra time, space, and support.

Through Private Socialization sessions, we help dogs feel more comfortable around people, dogs, and new environments. These sessions are ideal for:

  • Shy, fearful, or reactive dogs.
  • Rescue dogs with limited social experience.
  • Puppies who need early positive exposure.

With thoughtful guidance and an individualized plan, many dogs go on to thrive in our small-batch daycare groups.

Dog Training FAQ

What vaccinations are required for training?

All training dogs must be current on rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccinations.

Does my dog need an evaluation?

Yes! Every new training journey starts with a 30-minute consultation to learn about your dog and set realistic goals. Call 503-998-0034 to schedule.

How much does training cost?

Following the initial consultation, each private, one-on-one session costs $125. Sessions are approximately one hour in length. Dogs accepted into daycare and boarding qualify for ‘micro training sessions’. Selected as an add-on, these sessions can be 15-30 minutes long.

What can you teach my dog?

We cover everything from basic obedience to confidence-building, leash manners, polite greetings, and custom behavior goals.

Is my dog too old to benefit from training?

No way! Dogs of all ages can learn and grow. We create age-appropriate, humane training plans for every stage of life.

Do you use shock collars?

Absolutely not! Rose City Dogs does not endorse, promote, or engage in the use of shock/E collars, pinch collars, or any other device that would cause a dog physical or psychological harm. We leverage positive reinforcement for all instruction.

Better Behavior Starts Here

We believe training is one of the greatest gifts you can give your dog (and your dog’s family). Whether your goal is to build basic skills, overcome behavioral challenges, or strengthen your bond, we’re here to support you.
